Jasper’s Ride the Rainbow ‘Warwick to Salcombe Classic’

In April we have planned a bike ride starting at Warwick Hospital and finishing at The Fortescue, Salcombe (a pub of course!) in memory of our son Jasper and as a thanks to the amazing support of Warwick Maternity and SCBU units, Edwards Trust and SANDS. Initially, cycling was a way to clear my head, think about Jasper and my family and try to come to terms with what had happened. Very early on we felt we wanted to do something in Jasper’s name and raise money for these three charities who have supported us immensely during and since Jasper’s short life. The bike ride has been a challenge that has given us a focus. In the beginning it was just me cycling and training on my own but more and more people have offered their support and got involved, getting on their bikes and training each week to be able to complete the challenge. We’ve essentially set up a cycling club in Jasper’s name and will continue to ride and take on more challenges after this one. It has been a real source of comfort and helped me/us to move forward. Jasper’s legacy is bringing people together, he has brought new people into our lives and has made bonds with existing friends even closer so this cycling challenge is a perfect acknowledgment of that, bringing together friends and family, young and old with a common aim, standing (or rather sitting somewhat uncomfortably) shoulder to shoulder.

The cycle will have 5 Stages covering about 260 miles.

Obviously we will be frequenting the odd pub along the way and already have great support from The Fish and Anchor Inn, Offenham, The Stagecoach Inn, Berkley, The Boathouse, Bath who have all offered us discounts on lunch. Particular thanks to The Fortescue, Salcombe for providing the venue for our post ride celebration and being so accommodating, Theme 3 for designing and producing complementary posters advertising the event, TML food for supporting the event and some special friends and family members for agreeing to be our support vehicles, bacon sarnie and flapjack makers and morale boosters along the way.
